Settlement Approved For Widow, Son Of Assistant Killed In Fatal Travis Barker, DJ AM Jet Crash
A judge approved a multimillion-dollar legal settlement Tuesday involving the wife and young son of former Blink 182 drummer Travis Barker’s assistant, who was killed in a 2008 plane crash in South Carolina.
The settlement with Learjet Inc., Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. and other companies involved in the ownership, operation and making of the jet will pay for college for Chris Baker’s 3-year-old son and establish an annuity giving him more than $17 million over his lifetime.

Sister Defends Pilot In Travis Barker Plane Crash
The Learjet crash that claimed the lives of pilots James Bland and Sarah Lemmon and left musicians Travis Barker and DJ AM severely burned, wasn’t due to James’ abilities, his sister told People magazine.
“We know the investigation will eventually show they weren’t negligent,” Bland’s younger sister, Laura Martz, told the mag. “James took piloting very seriously. If he felt the plane wasn’t maintained properly, he would’ve refused to fly that day.”

The former Blink-182 drummer sued Friday. The lawsuit names the plane’s owners, Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co., and a maintenance company. He is seeking more than $25,000 in damages.

The pilot of a private jet warned air traffic controllers that his plane was “going off the end” of a runway before it crashed, killing him and three others and injuring celebrity DJ AM and former Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker.

The pilots of a doomed Learjet that crashed while hurtling down a runway, killing four people in South Carolina, should have lifted off the runway rather than try to abort the takeoff, aviation experts said Wednesday.
The plane’s speed reached a point of no return and couldn’t safely stop after the crew reported hearing a suspected tire blowout, the experts said.
