LOS ANGELES, Calif. --
The Batman casting rumors continue – with Megan Fox.
The “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen” star, who has been named in a number of recent casting rumors, including as the next Bond girl, is the latest actress to be mentioned as Catwoman in the sequel to 2008’s top-grossing “The Dark Knight,” according to UK tabloid The Sun.
The same tabloid previously reported that Eddie Murphy would play the Riddler in the film. A year ago, a number of UK papers reported that singer Cher would play Catwoman. Both reports were subsequently denied by the respective stars.
And a rep for Fox told Access Hollywood on Thursday that the new casting report is also false.
“It’s not true,” the rep said.
Additionally, a spokesperson for Warner Bros. — the studio behind the film — confirmed to Access the report of Fox being attached to the film was premature.
“It’s rumor. It’s not true,” the WB rep said. “There is no script. There is no project to be cast in.”
However, according to E! Online, a rep for Fox didn’t close the door entirely on the possibility of the star joining the superhero franchise.
“Megan is a huge fan of the ‘Batman’ movies and of director Christopher Nolan,” the rep told the site. “But these discussions have not taken place.”
The statement is reminiscent of what Megan told Access in July of her rumored role in a future James Bond movie, which she said was a false report.
“I would never pass on a franchise like that,” she told Access at the time. “Those are legendary, iconic movies. That’s obviously something I would love to do.”
In the meantime, Fox fans can find her in September’s “Jennifer’s Body.”
While no official announcement has been made on any details of the next Batman film, Gary Oldman, who played Commissioner Gordon in “The Dark Knight” and “Batman Begins,” asserted at the San Diego Comic-Con that the film would begin production in 2010 with a 2011 release date in mind.
