No name on the marquee was more pleasing to theater owners in 2008 than Will Smith, according to a survey of movie exhibitors.
Smith, star of “Hancock” and “Seven Pounds,” was voted the star who generated the most box office revenue for theaters in an annual survey by Quigley Publishing Co.

Jennifer Aniston’s latest film continued its march to the top of the holiday Box Office on Friday.
The Labrador-able “Marley & Me” made $14 million in its second day of release, besting “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button” and its $10.2 million.
“Marley’s” two-day total was $28.7 million, marking a huge comeback for the “Friends” star. She hasn’t had a movie out in theaters since June 2006’s “The Break Up.”

Jennifer Aniston’s latest film beat out ex-husband Brad Pitt’s at the box office, scoring the all-time best Christmas Day opening.
Jen’s new romantic comedy, “Marley & Me,” based on the bestselling novel about a loveable but incorrigible Labrador Retriever, opened at all all-time Christmas No. 1 with $14.75 million in ticket sales, according to preliminary box office numbers. The previous record was held by “Ali” with $10.2 million.
Meanwhile Brad’s film “The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button” followed in second with $11.8 million.

Movie audiences greeted Jim Carrey and Will Smith with a lukewarm “yes” as snowstorms undermined weekend debuts from both stars.
Carrey’s comedy “Yes Man” opened at No. 1 with $18.2 million in ticket sales, while Smith’s drama “Seven Pounds” came in second with $16 million, according to studio estimates Sunday.

Audiences sat still for Keanu Reeves’ sci-fi remake “The Day the Earth Stood Still,” making it the weekend’s top movie with a $31 million debut, according to studio estimates Sunday.
The 20th Century Fox release also added $39 million in 90 overseas markets for a worldwide total of $70 million.
