Glam Slam: Ga Ga Or Gag Gag?

LOS ANGELES, Calif. --

High fashion? Maybe if you’re high! This morning when I saw this photo of Lady Gaga at the Ace Awards in New York, it irked me so much I had to write about it. The “Lady” is a tramp, for sure.

Yeah, yeah, yeah… I know how Gaga rolls. Her M.O. is all about shock value, all about creating headlines. Shocking? No. Not really. Headline worthy? Not so much, but then again, here I am writing about her outfit, so I guess she succeeded in that she’s got people like me talking about her.

The old saying is that any publicity is good publicity. A few Hollywood stars might beg to differ. But Lady Gaga’s career has thrived by creating plenty of PR with her theatrical outfits that have earned her adjectives like outrageous and over the top.

In the beginning all the wigs and crazy outfits were lighthearted and fun… I loved seeing what she would wear next. But this is not fashion forward… it’s just plain old ugly. Are we to believe she rolled around in a vat of flour before she got in her limo?

When half of your gimmick is your crazy costumes… how do you keep topping yourself? Has it become drama for drama’s sake? There IS such a thing as trying too hard.

One of Gaga’s idols is Madonna and it’s obvious she’s cribbed from M. Of course, Madonna is no stranger to scandalous outfits and headlines, but she’s learned how to keep reinventing herself, while Gaga’s “outrageous” act is already starting to feel tired to me. Madonna has mastered the art of how to keep people wanting more. Not scratching their heads thinking, “Huh? WTF?”
