LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- Ryan Patterson with Celebrity Makeup Mogul Napoleon PerdisCaption Ryan Patterson with Celebrity Makeup Mogul Napoleon PerdisWhen you meet Celebrity Makeup Artist Napoleon Perdis, you don’t get a polite handshake, you get a great big hug and a warm welcome from the Aussie! I got the VIP tour of Napoleon’s Hollywood Headquarters, including the glam flagship store where he often meets and greets customers and an on-location makeup academy.

Napoleon demonstrated a quick makeup pick-me-up, using his Boudoir Mist Spray Foundation. (www.napoleonperdis.com) It’s in a small can like hair spray and you just spray away. (Make sure you close your eyes!) I thought it would get all over my hair and clothes… but no, somehow it does not! I was surprised at how it instantly made my skin look dewy! Napoleon and I chatted about a lot of things, including how real women can improve their makeup skills, especially for the holidays.

“Practice makes perfect and you should experiment with a few trial runs of a holiday look. That way you can adjust it as you see fit,” he says.

Here are some other makeup questions I had for Napoleon:

1. What is the single biggest concern or issue women have? The most common complaint I hear is that women want to look younger. And I’m glad to say that you don’t need to resort to a needle or scalpel to do so. You can take years off your face with the flick of an eyeliner, the sweep of a bronzer to contour or some well-placed concealer and light-diffusing foundation. Blush is another way to create dewy skin. But, for me, it is not necessarily about looking young. It’s about projecting health and radiance no matter your age.

2. For busy women who are strapped for time, what makeup gives the most bang for your buck? As I always say, not to prime is a crime. Using my Auto Pilot Pre-Foundation Primer means that your foundation will last longer and makeup with adhere to your skin better. Mascara is another essential: What coffee does for the body, mascara will do for the face - it’s your morning wake-up call!

3. Easy way to go from day to night for the holidays?Use your darkest eye shadow as an eyeliner. Softly smudge shadow into the lash line for a sexy, sultry and festive look. This season I’m all about golden eye shades. My Gold Digger Glimmer kit boasts three shades of brilliant gold shimmer to use on your eyes and even highlight your cheeks. Add the glimmer to the middle of the lip for the perfect pout.

4. Never leave the house without…Napoleon Perdis Camera Finish Powder. It is a 3-in-1 product, with foundation, concealer and powder. Pop it into your handbag and you will always be picture-perfect for the endless round of digital photos. You should always carry your favorite shade of DéVine Goddess Lipstick to touch up during the day.

5. Your all-time favorite makeup tip?Mascara first. Coating your lashes with mascara will map the rest of your makeup look. It also adds instant definition - making your eyes look lined and refined. If you run out of the house without anything else on your face, at least your eyes look fresh and awake. I always say fluttery will get you everywhere.
