LOS ANGELES, Calif.

The unstoppable Betty White is taking on reality TV with a hidden-camera show that turns senior citizens into merry pranksters.

NBC has ordered 12 episodes of “Betty White’s Off Their Rockers,” the working title for a series based on a hit Belgian program that has been produced in other European countries and South Korea.

What Betty White did in 2010 doesn’t usually happen: an 88-year-old actress with more than six decades in Hollywood suddenly became the object of adulation of the Facebook-connected masses, which campaigned for her to host “Saturday Night Live,” boosting the show’s ratings and helping her set ratings records for her own show.

After a year remarkable for a star of any age, White has been voted the Entertainer of the Year by members of The Associated Press.

Bea Arthur served up the jokes, making America laugh for decades on TV – but, as it turns out, the late actress also served her country in the Marine Corps during her youth.

According to TheSmokingGun.com, the “Maude” and “The Golden Girls” star served for 30 months starting in 1943. She reportedly was a member of the Women’s Reserve and worked as a truck driver and typist.

Betty White will soon be able to add “Forest Ranger” to her list of honors.

The actress known for her roles on “The Golden Girls” and “The Mary Tyler Moore Show” will be made an honorary ranger Tuesday by the U.S. Forest Service. The 88-year-old White has said that as a young girl she wanted to be a forest ranger, but women weren’t allowed to have the job.

With a new TV series, a comic book inspired by her life and a slew of recent hit movies under her belt, Betty White has become one of Hollywood’s hottest commodities. Could “Dancing with the Stars” be the next stop for the former “Golden Girl”?

“They’ve called me and I thanked them,” Betty told Access of “Dancing with the Stars” producers, at the premiere for her new film, “You Again,” on Wednesday. “I think Cloris Leachman took care of that for me.”
