Gwen Stefani
overview
Singer, fashion designer and sometime actress, Gwen Stefani entered the scene in 1987 with her brother’s band, No Doubt, initially sharing vocals with lead singer John Spence but after his suicide, emerging as the front voice for the band. Her brother left the ban, and her turbulent relationship with bandmate Tony Kanal contributed a great deal of tension to the band’s performance.
Still, the alternative ska band from Orange County, California group shot to superstardom with their 1995 album, “Tragic Kingdom,” and Gwen instantly became a “one to watch,” on the strength of songs like “Spiderwebs,” “Just A Girl,” and “Don’t Speak.”
She struck out on her own in 2004 with her first solo effort, “Love. Angel. Music. Baby.” which sold well. Another outgrowth of her solo efforts was her work with her own fashion label, L.A.M.B., which features styles pulled directly from her eclectic fashion sense. Her second album, “The Sweet Escape,” followed in 2006.
