LONDON, U.K. --
The British public has been drinking tea for over 200 years, and on Wednesday, President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle joined in the UK’s national obsession, enjoying the drink with The Queen.
The President and his wife paid a visit to Britain’s sitting monarch, Queen Elizabeth II, at Buckingham Palace for tea.
Michelle Obama exemplified her outstanding style at the meeting, wearing a black and white dress by Isabel Toledo and a black cardigan from Alaia, accentuated by two strands of pearls. President Obama wore a suit, while the Queen wore a pink dress with three pearl strands.
The First Lady’s outfit for her royal meeting was one of four outfits she has sported since she left for London on Tuesday. She wore a white coat and black dress from Thakoon getting on the plane and a yellow Jason Wu dress when disembarking from the aircraft in London.
Earlier today, when meeting British Prime Minister Gordon Brown and his wife, Sarah, she donned an off-white sweater with sequins from J Crew, and a green skirt.
And her look is getting her noticed by the UK press. The Guardian newspaper wrote that the First Lady had “homegrown style – but on a budget,” and they said her outfit to meet with the Prime Minister made her look “dazzling.”
“Obama did not put a foot wrong in low-heeled animal-skin-print heels and her signature pearls,” the paper added.
And it appears the First Lady will continue to be a fashion focus in London. She has several other outings in the capitol city scheduled, including a dinner for the spouses of those involved in the G20 summit.
According to the UK’s Telegraph, Michelle will be seated beside “Harry Potter” author, J.K. Rowling. Celebrity chef Jamie Oliver, who also prepared the menu for the affair, which will include Welsh lamb, asparagus and new potatoes.
The President is in London ahead of the G20 summit, to talk about the global economic crisis and regulation ideas.
