LOS ANGELES, Calif. --

Ryan Kwanten is set to cheer up plenty of TV watchers who’ll be spending Valentine’s Day on the couch as he guest stars in “New Girl.”

“He plays the guy that Zooey [Deschanel] tries to have a one night stand with, which is like, it was just a lot of fun to shoot,” show creator Liz Meriwether recently told Access Hollywood.com.

Liz said Ryan enters the picture in the way many of the guest stars have entered the fray this season – through the local drinking establishment.

“He’s playing a guy that she meets at the bar who is just kind of – obviously you meet Ryan Kwanten at a bar and you want to take him home and he kind of turns out to be the worst guy to have a one night stand with,” she laughed.

But those looking to hear Ryan’s natural Aussie accent will be out of luck. The “True Blood” star is sticking to a stateside twang in the episode.

“He’s playing an American, “ she said. “He said he was basing the character on Elaine’s boyfriend from ‘Seinfeld’… Kind of like, big… dumb.”

“Not the sharpest tool in the shed,” she added.
