LOS ANGELES, Calif. --

Dane Cook made a barb at the expense of Vanessa Hudgens at Sunday’s Teen Choice Awards. But when the show aired on Monday night on FOX, the headline-making joke was missing from the broadcast.

The comedian, who hit the stage as a guest presenter at the program, referenced the latest nude photo scandal to hit the former “High School Musical Star,” telling her “Girl, you got to keep your clothes on. Phones are for phone calls.”

And Dane seemed to know his comments wouldn’t make the broadcast.

“Do you think that’ll make the cut?” the comedian even asked Access Hollywood’s Shaun Robinson following the incident.

While the moment didn’t make the broadcast, the clip has hit the Internet.

The clip shows that when Dane began his joke, the camera panned to a smiling Vanessa. However, when the funnyman hit his punch line, her smile had faded.

Although she appeared composed, the actress, who first dealt with nude photos surfacing in 2007, did not look pleased by the comments.

FOX said various segments were cut out due to time.

“The taping of Teen Choice [Awards] 2009 must be edited down to time for the two-hour broadcast on FOX. Therefore, various show elements that were part of the taping will not appear in the broadcast version of the show,” a rep for the network said in a statement to Access.

As for Dane, he defended his remarks to Shaun on Sunday night.

“Mostly I just wanted it to be funny,” he said. “That’s the best part about being a comic when you go, ‘Maybe I can say the thing that everybody is kind of feeling and nobody [is saying].’ The elephant in the room moment. So, I’ll take it, I’ll take the hit. It’s OK.”
