LOS ANGELES, Calif. --
Now I know my ABC’s when it comes to Fall Fashion thanks to US Weekly fashion director Sasha Charnin Morrison and Elle creative director Joe Zee. The two teamed up to create an alphabetical list of stylish trends from A (aviators) to Z (zoology - i.e. animal prints).
Today I single out Five Hollywood Faves:
D IS FOR…DRAPING
Draping is an old couture technique that’s all about how the material “drapes” on the body. But Joe warns that you have to be careful because it can look like curtains. " You don’t want to walk away looking like you’re an extra in “The Sound Of Music”. It isn’t a trend that everyone can wear, so if you want to do it in small quantities, that’s how I would recommend you do it.”
“Angelina Jolie is a perfect example of somebody who wears a draped dress beautifully, I mean you see her on the red carpet and your jaw just kinda drops,” says Sasha.
L IS FOR…LUXE HIPPIE
“The rich hippy, it’s just something where you have all these kind of flowing bohemian prints and fringe and just big floppy hats and it seems like it’s a huge, huge trend for Young Hollywood,” Sasha says.
“I think one of the best celebrities who probably interprets this trend well is Nicole Richie,” says Joe. “She does this trend in such a cool hip modern way.”
M IS FOR…MENSWEAR
“I think the minute you say menswear I would be scared, because it sounds like, oh my God I’m gonna look like a catering waiter and that’s not what it’s about,” says Joe. “Victoria Beckham takes it and makes it completely feminine, I never look at her and think why does she look like a waitress? She looks incredibly sexy.”
O IS FOR…OVER-THE-KNEE BOOTS
“It’s probably the biggest trend in footwear and it’s something that I think everybody can pretty much wear, according to Sasha. She suggests you pair them with leggings, a slouchy sweater and a nice big bag.
“Rihanna was probably one of the first people we saw wearing over the knee boots,” Sasha says. “It seemed like she just really gravitated towards this trend, she really owned it. She’s basically the one I think that probably kick started the whole thing.”
X IS FOR…XTREME EYES
“Kim Kardashian’s eyes are just huge and I think that she really knows how to work those lashes,” Sasha says, “and so extreme eyes really just means if it’s not a false eyelash it’s a really great mascara,” according to Sasha. “I think lengthening is a huge thing in fashion and beauty and she does it so well because it’s you know the first thing you see are just those incredible eyes.”
