Maya Rudolph Grateful To Molly Shannon For Showing Her The Ropes On ‘Saturday Night Live’

“Saturday Night Live” alumni Maya Rudolph and Molly Shannon have reunited on the small screen once again for NBC’s “Up All Night,” and the “Bridesmaids” star says she couldn’t be happier to be working with her former “SNL” mentor.

“I think I asked [Molly] and Will Ferrell how to read the cue cards because no one explained anything to me, because I came in at the end of my season,” Maya explained to AccessHollywood.com’s Laura Saltman of how she and Molly first became friends on the late night sketch show back in 2000, during a visit to the “Up All Night” set in Los Angeles on Friday. “It was really scary to come in like that and not know anyone.”

overview

At 6’3” and possessing clean cut, goofy everyman good looks, Will Ferrell may have seemed destined to play the background guy. But his unique humor soon skyrocketed him into the spotlight.

A California native, he started his showbiz life as a local cable channel sportscaster but soon moved on to improv and from there, a successful audition led him to “Saturday Night Live,” for which he became a popular regular. His characteristically wacky portrayals of everyone from Janet Reno to an overeager Spartans cheerleader earned him a 2001 Emmy nomination.

After breaking out of “SNL” (in the long-standing tradition of many show regulars before him), he provided a few solid supporting performances in movies before landing leading roles — first in 2003 in “Old School” and “Elf,” and then, as the vain lead in “Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy,” Slot in roles the film version of “Bewitched,” “Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby,” and “Blades of Glory” and you have a successful comedy career in the making.
